Garage Sale

Today we had another garage sale as part of a neighborhood sale. We didn't have that much to sell but it was fun to sit outside in the shade and knit. We sold sodas left over from our wedding for 50 cents each :)

Wedding Favors

Today I baked 150 cookies! These cookies are Italian Knot Cookies. I used my grandma's recipe. I'm the only one in my family that knows how to make them now and I baked them for our wedding favors. We're going to tie them up in little bags tomorrow and give them to everyone who comes to our wedding on Saturday :)

Wedding Bouquet

D and I are getting married one week from tomorrow and I am making my bouquet from vintage brooches. Most of the brooches are from my mom and her friends.

I've been wrapping floral wire around the base of each pin, twisting the wire around the stem, and then covering it with floral tape. It's working really well so far. I can't wait to arrange them all together to make my bouquet!

Hatch, NM

On Saturday a few of us drove up to Hatch after the Unravelers Knitting Guild meeting. We went to Sparky's for awesome green chile cheeseburgers. After we ate we walked around Hatch's downtown. Then we went back to Sparky's to knit.

Sparky's has another downtown storefront at the corner of Franklin and Hall streets with booths and tables and live music on the weekends. We just missed the live music but we had fun knitting in there for hours.

We even took some Sparky's BBQ to go :)

Click here for more pictures and here for more information about Sparky's.

Wedding Decorations

Yesterday I got some supplies for making our wedding decorations. I am going to make tissue paper flowers following this Martha Stewart tutorial.

The colors will be light blue, teal, white, and orange to match our wedding colors.

We are getting married in a public park that has monkey bars in the shape of an arch. I think it would be super cute to hang our tissue paper flowers from the arch and get married in front of it. We'll hang some in our house too as decorations for our party :)

Mags

This is Mags, one of our dogs. This week has been so busy that I want to curl up on the couch like Mags and take a nap.

This past week I was starting to question my 12 sweaters in 2012 New Year's Resolution. I've been stuck on one of the garter yoke cardigan's that I've been knitting. I've knitted two from the same pattern but had to rip both of them back and make major modifications and re-designs. Then I got stuck on how to decrease stitches when I knit the arms. The pattern doesn't call for decreasing stitches but I know that the arms will be much too wide if I don't. Thankfully I was able to talk to two design-minded knitting friends last night at Stitch 'n Bitch who were able to help me through it. I should be able to finish my first sweater of 2012 by the end of January!

Outside the Governor's Office

Today I was in Santa Fe for Colonias Day at the Legislature. Colonias Day is a day for residents and representatives of the Colonias in New Mexico to come to the capitol and speak to their legislators about the needs of their communities. One of the events today was a meeting with Governor Martinez. There is a gallery outside of her office with displays of vintage maps. I had a chance to look at them before the meeting. This one is my favorite!

Pastelitos

I think this cake is my favorite kind of cake. You can find it with the Mexican pastries at the local Pic Quik stores.

This cake is awesome. The labels say that they are made by a local Las Cruces bakery. I tried to find the phone number online but it is disconnected. I don't think this bakery has a retail shop.

I'm going to try to find it in the next few weeks so we can order some of this cake for our wedding. D and I are getting married on March 3rd :)

Felting Yarn Stash

Yesterday I got some more plastic storage bins at Home Depot. They were on sale and also the army green mustard color that matches my new favorite sweater.

Having the extra storage bins let me rearrange my yarn stash and dedicate three whole under the bed boxes to my felting yarn. Mostly all of the yarn is wound into cakes and they all sit in color order.

Having them organized makes it so much easier to put colors together for felting projects. And they look super cute!

Monday

This year one of my New Year's resolutions is to take a picture every day. I started to do this in April of 2011 after being inspired by the 365 photo groups on Flickr. Last year I took one picture a day on approximately 144 days. This year my goal is 365 :)

So my New Year's resolutions are:
1. Couch to 5K
2. One picture every day
3. One blog post every week
4. Knit 12 sweaters in 12 months
5. Grow my small business, introduce new product lines, and set up my vendor's table at the farmer's market.

What are your resolutions for 2012?

@ Kirsten's

We spent New Year's Day helping Kirsten put up a fence for her horses. It was a beautiful day to be outside. We went home and got our dogs and then went for a walk in the desert with Kirsten and her dogs when the fence was done.
